Rwanda : MTN donates computers Nyanza School

Rwanda leading telecommunication provider, MTN Rwanda has donated 36 computers to ESPANYA Secondary School in Nyanza district, with an aim of promoting use of information technology in the education sector.

The assortments were donated by the MTN foundation and handed over to the school authorities during a function held on this October 22 in Nyanza district, southern province of Rwanda. The computers also have a free internet connection for a full year and will resolve the problem of lack of sufficient numbers of computers among students.

Zeluphat Mukarubega, a member of the foundation, who represented MTN officials, said that the school’s ICT program was initiated to boost education in schools and the selected beneficiaries were only required to fulfill the requirements of the program.

She said that the program will be continuous and the foundation has committed a good percentage of its income to contribute to the government policy of promotion the use of information technology through developing use of computers in schools.

The donation was highly appreciated by the teachers and students, who said that this will boost their skills and knowledge which will benefit them in their education programs.

Narcisse Mudahinyuka, the headmaster of ESPANYA School, said that the computers will improve the schools education programs especially in areas of research and open up the students to access modern technology which has become major requirement in today’s education system.

One of the benefiting students, Solange Uwamahoro also stated that this donation was timely since the students also have had a problem of lack of internet connection for and shortage of machines shared amongst the students’ community.

Abdallah Murenzi, the District Mayor, that the computers will be an additional contribution to the district development agenda of promoting the use of ICT in education as streamlined in the 2012-13 performance contracts.
