The two months MTN Mobile money promo ended, today with five Rwandans across the country walking away each with Rwf100.000 cash prizes.
Norman Munyampundu, the MTN General Manager-Customer Operations, who handed over the cash prizes, said that at least 47 Rwandans have managed to benefit from the promo which has seen a Rwf5.5million bounty dished to MTN clients using the Mobile money services
The rewarding ceremony was held at the MTN Kimironko service center, also marked the closure of the MTN Mobile money promotion that kicked off in January this year.
Munyampundu said that even though the promotion has ended, MTN Rwanda has more packages in stock which will be launched with more prizes aimed at encouraging its clients to use MTN services.
The winners this week, by province included: Evalde Nzayizera(Kigali), Wilson Gato(East), Jean Nepomuscene Nikorutuye (West), Daphrose Rivugabaramye(North), Felix Ndayishimiye (South).
Daphrose Rivugabaramye, a resident of Ruli sector, Gakenke district, Northern Province, was the only lady in the group said that her reward will enable her to improve her farming activities and social welfare.
“With this money, I plan to buy a calf, to add on to my two cows. This will enable me to improving my farming activities by getting more animal manure to be used on the farmland to improve my yields” she said.
Each week, MTN has been rewarding prizes to five lucky winners, each walking away with Rwf100.000. At the end of each month, one lucky winner will also get Rwf500.000, and also get free airtime tokens-two people managed to scoop the Rwf500.000 prize.
More than 800,000 subscribers in Rwanda use MTN data and represents 13% of revenue as of 2013. MTN Rwanda was the 1st in MTN Group to use the new Mobile Money platform among the three telecom companies operating today. Over 1 million subscribers use MTN Mobile Money and close to Rwf100 billion was transacted via Mobile Money
Rwanda’s Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), John Rwangombwa says that the money pushed through mobile money service platforms has more than doubled over the past year, with Rwf330b (about $492.3m) was pushed through mobile money platforms last year, a 105 per cent increase from Rwf161b (about $240.2m) recorded in 2012.
