Residents in Nyaruguru District have been urged to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) considering it as their right and not privilege.

According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and ICT Rose Mary Mbabazi, it is high time Rwandans started using Technology in their daily work and realize that access to technology is their daily necessity and should not be taken for granted or as a gift.

Mbabazi was addressing Nyaruguru resident on 27th February 2014 during a sensitization program on ICT for the 10th Session in the area.

In the 10th session of ICT, Girls are being encouraged to participate in the program through ‘Smart Girl’ project in ‘Girls in the ICT’ program.

Locals and other attendees were also told that Rwanda is employing the use of ICT in many of its sectors including crop and animal husbandry, health, education, communication, financial services, government and private services among others.

Francois Habitegeko the mayor of Nyaruguru district said the program will make residents understand that ICT is not an option only for the educated and rich as most of them believed.

Lack of tools and infrastructure like antennas, and internet cables were identified as some of the limitations to the use of ICT in Nyaruguru District.
